Mouth Guards

Mouthguards and night guards are oral appliances designed to protect your teeth—whether you’re an athlete or someone who clenches or grinds at night—helping prevent damage and long-term injury.

Mouthguards and Night Guards in Wichita, KS

At Humlicek Dental, we believe mouthguards are an essential safeguard for any child or adult participating in contact sports. These custom-made appliances cushion the impact from blows to the face, helping prevent broken teeth, jaw injuries, and other serious oral health problems that could last a lifetime. Made from lightweight, durable material, our mouthguards are designed for comfort and ease of use—they fit securely without interfering with breathing or speaking.

For patients who clench or grind their teeth at night—a condition known as bruxism—we also provide custom night guards. Worn during sleep, night guards protect teeth from fractures, breakage, and excessive wear while also reducing related issues such as headaches and jaw pain. By addressing bruxism early, night guards can help you avoid long-term damage and preserve a healthy, pain-free smile.

  • How do night guards help teeth grinding?

Night guards act as a protective barrier between your upper and lower teeth, preventing damage from grinding and clenching. They also reduce strain on the jaw muscles and joints, helping to relieve pain and discomfort caused by bruxism.

  • What are the types of dental mouthguards?

There are three main types of mouthguards:

    • Stock mouthguards: Pre-made and ready to wear, these are the least expensive option and widely available in sporting goods stores. However, they cannot be adjusted, often feel bulky, may interfere with breathing or speaking, and provide only limited protection.
    • Boil-and-bite mouthguards: Also sold in sporting goods stores, these offer a better fit. After being softened in hot water, the guard is placed in the mouth and shaped around the teeth for improved comfort and protection.
    • Custom-fitted mouthguards: Made by your dentist from an impression of your teeth, these provide the highest level of comfort, fit, and protection. They are individually designed to match your bite and offer the best defense against injury.
